High-capacity plasma and oxyfuel cutting

CNC plasma cutting works by turning gas ionised in an electric arc into a high-temperature plasma jet that melts and separates the metal. Its high cutting speed and wide thickness range make it a common choice for medium and heavy plate.

At Beta Metal we cut steel up to 100 mm thick on an Ajan CNC plasma and oxyfuel machine with a 3000 × 12000 mm cutting area. That table size allows long bodies, structural frames and large-format parts to be produced in one piece instead of being split, which removes the labour and the loss of strength that come with a joint weld.

Because cutting runs under CNC control, operator intervention stays minimal and part geometry is produced to the technical drawing with high repeatability. Where thicknesses exceed what plasma can handle, oxyfuel cutting takes over on the same table.

Technical specifications

We work in a thickness range of 3 – 30 mm in plasma cutting and 10 – 100 mm in oxyfuel cutting. Plasma gives fast, economical production in medium and heavy gauges, while oxyfuel takes over on thick carbon steel plate beyond what plasma can handle.

Cutting programs are prepared in Metalix CAD/CAM, and technical files in DXF, DWG, STEP and dimensioned PDF formats can be processed directly. Nest optimisation keeps the scrap rate on the plate to a minimum.

Plasma cutting covers mild steel, stainless steel and aluminium; oxyfuel cutting covers carbon steel. Sheet material can be supplied by Beta Metal or sent by the customer, and we cut quantities ranging from a single sample part to series production.
